Abstract
Twenty five patients with vasomotor rhinitis had been treated with Loratadine (Clarytine) which is a competitive antagonist of histamine at H1-receprots & effectively blocks the action of histamine in tissues for 4 weeks.
Major symptoms such as sneezing, nasal blowing and itching improved significantly, but anosmia and nasal obstruction improved insignificantly. Physical findings such as colors of the turbinate, turbinate swelling, and rhinorrhea amount improved
insignificantly.
No significant adverse reaction occured during 4 weeks administration of Loratadine.
It was suggested that Loratadine may be an effective & safe drug for management of vasomotor rhinitis with mild side effects.
